If you have setup and activated a data feed but no data is being downloaded, here are a few things you can check:
- Check to make sure that you are connected to the internet and that Stock Portfolio Organizer is allowed access through any firewall.
- Check to see if there are any errors being generated by the one or more data feeds that you have setup and activated. You can do this by looking at the ‘Data Feed Messages’ panel.
Messages that have a red dot next to them are errors. The most common causes of errors occur when the data provider could not be reached or the ticker symbol could not be found with the data provider. If the data provider is not responding or can’t be reached, check your internet connection and make sure Stock Portfolio Organizer has been allowed access through any firewall. If that is okay, check the data feed plugin settings. Some plugins require a special API key to function. Lastly, if you are requesting too much data too quickly, the data provider may have banned your IP. In that case check the settings in the ‘Throttle Requests’ tab and change them to something appropriate. If you run into this problem please contact us for some suggestions. If you are getting errors that indicate that the data provider could not locate any data for particular ticker symbols, please make sure that the ticker symbols in the database do no have any special prefixes or suffixes. For example, the ticker symbol ‘BHP.AX’ should not have the suffix ‘.AX’. Please see the following for more information. If the ticker symbols are correct, please check the data feed plugin settings as some plugins need to have the target market specified so that they can format the ticker symbols in a way that indicates, which market they belong to. Lastly, sometimes data providers use a different ticker symbol for a particular stock due to name clashes.
